regional meet...at the beach

in april skylar and i headed to california for her regional gymnastics meet.  we drove with another gymnast and her mom and shared a suite with another mom and her twins girls.

the beach was a must!  these girls have such hard bodies--some of them  look like little body builders!  they had a few people comment on their muscles and even one big guy challenged them to a handstand contest!  right there on the beach!  skylar won that--she's the handstand queen!

ever since sky was little, she's always loved running from the waves! 

while hanging out at the beach, we noticed people being cleared from a certain area.  the police eventually came to where we were sitting and told us we had to move 10 yards further down the beach.  after seeing men in hazmat suits we had to find out what was going on!

 they had a huge section of the beach cleared off because there was a BOMB in the viaduct that ran out to the ocean!  they even had the parking lot blocked off with our car in it!  we watched for quite a while but eventually had to leave.  after getting clearance from several different officers, we were allowed to walk all the way around the parking lot, to go under 2 rows of police tape, hop in our car and get out fast!  what an adventure!



boston's going to be the best dad

having a twin sister has taught boston a lot of things that most boys don't experience.  all i have to say is he's going to be one amazing dad:)  (notice his baby is totally backwards!  thats the boy in him!)

lv 8 state meet

she did it! skylar made level 8 after being out of gymnastics for 7 months last year. her goal was just to make level 8 so we really weren't expecting any medals at state. considering that, she did a great job. here she is after getting 8th place on bars!

skylar also qualified for western regionals!!!  (she really wanted to but didn't think she would) 

her cute little team got 2nd place.  two of her teammates got 1st all-around in their age divisions!

sailor, front and center, during her speaking part at her 5th grade program!  neither of us can remember what the program was for!  (i guess that's why i should stay current on my blog, huh?)  i do remember she had a lot of speaking parts and she looked darling in her pioneer costume!

after tubbing, the boys settled down for video games, the birthday song, and birthday cake!

for hayden's birthday, we went up to a friend's cabin for the night!  gina brought nic up so we got to play with her kids for a while.  boston and mia were very happy around the treat table!

the boys immediately set out to find the hot tub.  they shoveled and shoveled!  unfortunately it was buried under 8 feet of snow!  they did uncover it though, only to find out that all the water had drained out due to a broken pipe.  how disappointing:(

so.......they found a hot tub in the cabin!  not really a hot tub but a really huge tub!  they filled it with bubbles, turned on the steamer in the shower and made a huge mess!  it was quite the surprise when i walked in the bathtub and found this!  (nic, andrew, hayden, garret, kyle and michael in the back)

5 BIG teenage boys and one little brother......................................................it was quite the site!

i mopped and mopped the floor--bubbles and water was everywhere.  they'll never forget it though!  (hayden, andrew, kyle)

a favorite at indian wells is the tennis serve radar booth.  everyone was pretty happy with their times.  joe was usually in the 112 mph range.  not sure if this one is 127 or 12.7mph!

sailor hit 50!  from her smile, i think you can tell that she's pretty pleased with that!

hayden's high was 69.6 mph.  not bad!

i had to post this cute picture just to remember how nice it was to use our friend's car

service.  they had a driver that would take us anywhere, drop us off right at the door,

pick up treats for us, wait until all hours of the night for us and pick us up at the door. 

joe's heaven

this is what heaven will be like for joe:  tennis. all day long and into the night. 
he lived at indian wells for 3 days.  and could have stayed there another week.

rafa. later this night we saw nadal at his hotel.  he smiled his big smile right at me!  he was staying in a suite right by our friend's suite.  whitney saw him in the parking lot and gave us word that he was headed back to his room.  we jumped on our golf cart (that's how you get to your room at this resort) and within minutes, we passed right by him on his golf cart.  he's a cutie.

during rafa's match, the kids sat close to the front in hopes of running up to the court  afterwards and getting nadal's autograph.  the mean man at the end of the aisle made them move when he saw them without parents.  our friend, andie, was so nice to buy all of the kids giant tennis balls (the ones that the kids beg us to buy them every time they see them).

skylar was determined to get an autograph.  here she is on the very far left, hoping rafael nadal would make it down to her.  it didn't happen.  she's saving her giant ball for next year, determined as ever!
