in september(?) kendall attempted to run 100 miles.
the course took him from kaysville to heber. (check it out
on a map) running along the tops of the mountain peaks
which also means when you get to a canyon, you run down
the mountain to get to the next mountain and back up to
that peak and so on and so on and so on for 100 miles/24+ hours.
we met him at the top of a canyon after he had been running
for approximately 16-17 hours, 65(?) miles. have you ever tried
running just 5 miles? it was 10 p.m. he had been running since
5 or 6 a.m. (details!) it was very cold. it was very dark. it was
eerily quiet. there were little glow sticks hanging from the trees
along narrow dirt paths showing the runners where the path
went. these were little, not very bright glow sticks. i don't know
how they don't get lost. everyone huddled around kendall as he
was trying to re-nourish himself. his body was shaking and
hunched over. i was scared.
kendall wasn't scared. he was focused. i wanted to wrap blankets
around him, stick him in the car and take him home. after just
a few minutes with him, he got up hugged his family and went
off into the darkness................................................................
i didn't sleep all night.
he didn't either, at least i was in my warm bed.
his race was tracked on the internet and we could almost follow
exactly where he was. to put an end to a long post, he ran just
over 75 miles and about a month later, completed a 100 mile
race at bear lake. i think he's superman. check out his blog at:
